When it came to Friday’s verbal commitment to NIU for Solorio Academy (Chicago, IL) wide receiver Messia Travis, the 2019 prospect pointed to the Dekalb campus’ proximity.
“I felt like I should stay close to home,” he said.
Travis narrowed his list of schools to other MAC programs including Toledo and Western Michigan.
The junior holds offers from both schools along with Illinois State from the Missouri Valley.
Next weekend, Travis has a pair of camps on his schedule with the Under Armour Camp Series and The Opening Regional.
The Huskies were the first school which offered the in-coming senior a scholarship after extending one during January.
EVALUATION
This is a physical and athletic target for the Huskies to work with in the coming years.
Expect Travis to add a defensive mentality at the wide receiver position by having spent time in the secondary so far during his high school career.
Has an ability to excel at high pointing 50/50 balls in both one and one coverage as well as heavy traffic.
Possesses strong hands at hauling in receptions and releasing off the line of scrimmage against press coverage.
A natural fit in the slot with movement skills that mirror a running back when he has the ball in his hands.
