St. Louis area DL recaps recent offers and visits

As Gabriel Rubio continues his recruiting process this current off-season, the Luthern of St. Charles County (Saint Peters, MO) defensive tackle has a major area of study in mind.

He specifically pointed out an academic slate from the Big 12.

“I wanted to visit Oklahoma State even though I didn’t have an offer from them because they have an excellent Fire Science and Firefighter program,” Rubio said. “It’s easy to forget that a campus visit is as much about academics as it is about athletics.”

And the 2021 prospect found himself in Stillwater last month and left that visit with an offer from the Cowboys.

Kentucky played host as well during April.

“So far this Spring I have been able to visit Kentucky and Oklahoma State,” he said. “I have been trying to visit schools that have offered me so that the coaches and I can get to know each other better and see if we fit well together.”

Vanderbilt, Cal, LSU and Iowa State extended recent offers to Rubio with the Tigers and Cyclones adding theirs earlier this week.

“I’m finding it harder and harder to get to campuses,” he said. “It’s a bummer because I want to show each school that I take their offer seriously.”

The incoming junior also holds offers from Ball State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska and Ohio State and made more visits so far this year to see all of these schools except the Illini, the Buckeyes and the Cardinals of Louisville.

Rubio took a trip to Notre Dame during late January as well
