Matthew Johnson revealed a local decision on Sunday after verbally committing to Northern Illinois.
The defensive end had made the short trip to DeKalb this weekend for the Huskies’ junior day.
“NIU felt like home honestly,” he said. “The coaching staff embraced me and I loved everything about the campus. It’s close to my hometown and my family and friends will be able to visit me with ease.”
As of right now, Johnson confirmed no plans to visit more programs at this time but is considering campus trips later this off-season.
“I’ll still visit other schools just for experience but that will not affect my commitment to the NIU Huskies.”
The 2020 prospect received an Eastern Illinois scholarship offer on Friday following a visit to Eastern Michigan for the Eagles’ junior day.
During the Fall, Johnson was at Michigan State, Iowa State and Delaware State after competing at Iowa’s camp in June.
