With interest from a variety of FBS and FCS programs, Eric Mooney found a future home for himself in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Over the weekend, the Huntley (Huntley, IL) athlete announced a verbal commitment to Northern Iowa.

Mooney received a scholarship offer from the Panthers in early May while South Dakota, Butler, North Dakota, Southern Illinois and Fordham all extended offers of their own during the same month.

The 2018 prospect landed offers from Western Illinois, Indiana State, Columbia, Yale and Harvard over the summer.

After a trip to Bloomington for Indiana’s junior day in February of 2016, Mooney attended camps hosted by Illinois and Purdue that summer, and made a pair of unofficial visits to Iowa and Northern Illinois in the Fall.

EVALUATION

This is a decisive dual-threat signal caller running an offense from a variety of packages at the quarterback position.

In passing situations, Mooney places the football with touch and displays the I.Q. to know when to continue through his reads and progressions, and when to tuck and go.

The senior provides a downhill ability of a running back and has the skill set to lineup at nickel/safety on the defensive side of the ball.
