Prudy Calderon received some news on Monday.
The San Marcos (San Marcos, TX) athlete, who had extended a verbal commitment to Rice this past August, confirmed that Texas extended a preferred walk-on offer.
“This means a lot,” he said. “I always think it’s amazing for somebody to consider you, and for such a school to, is very humbling. The biggest thing I can take away from the program is that they pride themselves on the tradition as they should. The coaching staff has built that into the players and everybody is strictly business on the field.”
Calderon plans to meet with the Longhorns’ coaching staff during a scheduled visit to Austin on Oct. 29.
“Don’t really know what to expect, although I’m excited,” he said. “Just hoping for the best honestly. It’s a blessing to be able to play the game. So anything extra is another blessing.”
The 2018 prospect remains committed to the Owls and also holds scholarship offers from Army, Yale, Brown, San Diego, Columbia, Eastern Illinois, Texas State, Holy Cross, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville and Penn.
Calderon has accounted for 1,779 all-purpose yards so far this season at quarterback which includes 785 through the air, 977 on the ground and 23 total touchdowns (15 rushing, 8 passing).
During last game’s 31-15 win over Del Valle (Austin, TX), the senior finished with 331 total yards (196 passing, 118 rushing, 17 receiving yards), a pair of passing touchdowns and two more scores running the football.
Earlier this year, he spent time at both The Nike Opening Houston Regionals and the U.S. Army National Combine.
