Reflecting on last week’s commitment to Illinois, Carlos Sandy pointed to a variety of factors.
From the academic experience to the relationship developed with head coach Lovie Smith, the Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale, FL) believes he found his ideal fit at the next level.
“Education, my family and coach Lovie [Smith] was a major part,” Sandy said. “I feel as if what coach Lovie has planned for the Illini will make them great. And with the addition of me, I feel as if I can contribute to his idea.”
Prior to this past Wednesday’s commitment, the 2018 prospect made an unofficial visit to Champaign on June 15.
“The whole campus was astounding and what they had planned to renovate was shocking to hear,” he said of the trip. “Not only that, but also getting a chance to speak to some of the students about the school itself was inspiring. My talk with Lovie truly pushed me into making Illinois my future school.”
Sandy landed a scholarship offer from Illinois this past April and also holds offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Colorado State, ECU, FAU, Georgia State, Marshall, UMass, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Toledo, Troy, Utah State, Western Kentucky and Western Michigan.
The incoming senior recently competed in camps at Kentucky and Wake Forest as well.
