After canceling his plans to visit Michigan and Ole Miss earlier this summer, due to an obligation related to high school football events, Steven Franklin now looks to reschedule these trips.
And the Glasgow (Glasgow, KY) outside linebacker/defensive end is planning on sooner rather than later.
“I wasn’t able to make it to Michigan or Ole Miss,” Franklin said. “But they will be two of the first visits I take this season.”
During the current off-season, the incoming senior found himself at Memphis, where he plans to visit again this upcoming Fall.
“The family environment stood out,” said Franklin, who also took a visit to Middle Tennessee State. “It’s so close around the city, so it makes you feel important. Football is very important in the city. I will attend some games this season.”
The high school season kicks off for him and Glasgow this Friday at home against Campbellsville.
“My personal expectations are to get better, make all-state again, and also win the district player of the year,” Franklin said. “My team expectations are to get better, grow as a family and win as much as we can. Make our mark on our school’s football program”
The 2017 prospect is a fit as both a 4-3 defensive end and a 3-4 outside linebacker, and he knows how to get to the quarterback. Franklin’s ability to cover the flat and boundary portion of the field likely makes his natural position at the next level in a 3-4 scheme. As a junior last Fall, he finished with seven sacks, 57 tackles and a pair of pass break-ups.
“I like the defensive end/outside linebacker look,” Franklin said. “I play defensive end at my school because that’s where I help my team the most. Some colleges like me at defensive end/outside linebacker, but some see me as an inside linebacker, because of their scheme.”
