Montaye Hill possesses characteristics to play in the middle of a 3-4 defensive line on first down, second down, goalline and short yardage situations.
He’s a prototypical nose man and reminds us of Notre Dame product Louis Nix III, who is currently with the NFL’s Houston Texans.
Hill is rarely seen backpeddling post-snap while at the point of attack.
Offensive guards and centers struggle to move him up field and into the second level of the defense. Instead, it’s normally Hill forcing his own upfield action into the backfield, or a stale mate at the line of the scrimmage.
At the end of the day, we believe Hill can help a 3-4 defense develop the ability to stuff the run consistently. He occupies space in the interior of the line of scrimmage, which to us, is a core trait for playing nose guard or nose tackle.
The more Hill improves his athleticism and ability to rush the passer, the more opportunities he will find on third and long situations.
