More visits planned for St. Louis DL

Gabriel Rubio believes in a modest approach as it relates to his recruiting process.

With scholarship offers and interest growing from Power 5 colleges, the Lutheran of St. Charles County (Saint Peters, MO) defensive lineman is not looking to build a list of schools.

Instead, Rubio prefers an ideal fit.

“I’m not collecting offers and don’t need 40-plus,” he said. “Just one from the right school and the right coach.”

And the 2021 prospect already has a variety of choices.

On Monday, Rubio landed an invite to Notre Dame’s junior day after making a trip to South Bend for the 19-14 win over Pitt in mid-October.

“ND is a special place and I have high expectations,” he said of the Fighting Irish. “I believe the program is going to get better and better. Top 4 in the country is nothing to shake a stick at. Great players, great coaches and even better people.

This week’s news from Notre Dame was followed by Tuesday’s Ohio State offer.

“I haven’t been on campus,” Rubio said of the Buckeyes. “They want me to visit soon. I plan on visiting each school that has offered me.”

That also includes Nebraska, Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois and Louisville

He made trips to all of these campuses except the Illini during the Fall with head coach Lovie Smith and members of the Illinois coaching staff paying a visit of their own.

“Very excited and genuine,” he recalled. “I expect them to do some really good things in the coming years.”
