The school which first offered San Marcos (San Marcos, TX) athlete Prudy Calderon a scholarship last March ended up becoming his future program.
Calderon revealed a verbal commitment flip from Rice to Yale on Sunday.
“It was super difficult,” he said. “But I feel it was the right time after prayer and talking with my family.”
The 2018 prospect had previously committed to the Owls in early August following an offer during late July.
Earlier this month, Calderon made an East Coast trip to the New Haven campus for an unofficial visit.
“When I went up there it felt like one big family I can see myself at for four years,” said the senior, who does not plan to sign with Yale during the upcoming early signing period (Dec. 20-22). “It’s also a 40-plus year decision. Just ready to head up and compete.”
In late October, he had taken a visit to in-state Texas following a preferred walk-on from the Longhorns a few weeks prior.
Calderon holds holds scholarship offers from Army, Brown, San Diego, Columbia, Eastern Illinois, Texas State, Holy Cross, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville and Penn.
