Jayden Russell continues his recruiting trail on Friday with a trip to Illinois.
This past Saturday, the St. Thomas Aquinas (Lenexa, KS) safety took an unofficial visit to Kansas State, which extended a scholarship offer during late April.
“I love how close everyone is from coaches to players, and even fans,” he said of the Wildcats. “K-State has made it clear, I’m a target for them in the 2019 class, and I love the coaches there. They expect big things from their players.”
Just over a year ago, Kansas State’s in-state Big 12 rival Kansas extended a scholarship offer of its own to Russell.
The defensive back went on to attend the Jayhawks’ 44-20 home loss to Oklahoma State this past October, and most recently took a return trip to Lawrence in April for the Spring Game.
“I love how they offered me as a freshman,” he said of Kansas. “They are in rebuilding mode, but I see a bright future and I truly believe that. I love how KU wants me playing multiple positions, including wide receiver, cornerback and safety.”
Big 12 interest also comes from Iowa State, who offered the defensive back during the first week of May.
“They love my length,” he said of the Cyclones. “I haven’t visited yet, but I plan on soon. I haven’t picked a date yet.”
Russell has plans to see Nebraska on June 23 as well.
“I’m looking for one more camp, but I haven’t decided which.”
