Amari Burney has a plan.
The Clearwater Central Catholic athlete wants to be patient when it comes to his college decision.
With 10 scholarship offers so far, from schools representing the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and AAC, Burney says that an announcement won’t come until National Signing Day of 2018. So, we break down the type of prospect his future program will be inheriting.
At the wide receiver position, what jumps out initially is the deceptive speed Burney posseses for his size. The incoming junior provides an elite stride which allows him to get up field and downhill faster than most defensive backs. Burney separates with speed comparable to slot receivers as shown with bubble screens, fly patterns and post routes. High pointing the football is a strength as well.
On the defensive side of the ball as a safety, Burney has a knack for tracking the football in the air. Has shown an ability to play single high, in a two deep shell and in the box near the line of scrimmage. Burney also displays the technique to bring down ball carriers at both high and low angles.
At the end of the day, his skill sets compliment each other on both sides of the football. Burney brings the athleticism and ball skills of a wide receiver to the safety position along with the physicality of a safety to the wide receiver spot.
